One and the same device often serves both as the point's tablet and as the Owner's personal phone. RentOS can switch between two sign-ins — "Staff Sign-In" (the staff PIN, the dark working app) and "Owner Sign-In" (your personal PIN, the light dashboard) — in two taps, without typing your email and password every time.
Switching lives on the sign-in screens, not inside the app. That is, you first go out to the sign-in screen and only there choose who to sign in as.
The condition: the device must know both sides #
The switch icon appears only if the matching condition is met:
- the crown on the staff screen — if you have signed in to the dashboard with your email and password on this device at least once (the app remembers you for a long time, for years);
- the people icon on the owner screen — if this device is linked to a point.
On an ordinary point tablet where the Owner has never signed in there will be no crown. On the Owner's personal laptop that has never been linked to a point there will be no people icon.
From the staff sign-in to the Owner's dashboard #
- Open the "Staff Sign-In" screen. If you are already working in the staff app, first tap "Switch staff member" in the top bar — that is the way out to the sign-in screen.
- In the top bar tap the crown icon — "Log in as Owner".
- The heading changes to "Owner Sign-In". Enter your personal PIN, not the staff PIN.
- Your dashboard opens.
Changed your mind? The same button in the top bar now shows the people icon — "Back to the staff sign-in".
From the Owner's dashboard to the staff sign-in #
- On the dashboard home screen tap the menu on the company card — where the name and the email are.
- Choose "Log out" .
- The Owner sign-in screen opens. If this device is linked to a point, the people icon — "Log in as Staff" — is in the top left.
- Tap it: the "Staff Sign-In" screen opens with the point's name, and the staff member enters their PIN.
About the Owner's personal PIN #
It is set in the dashboard: home screen → the menu on the company card → "Change PIN" , from 4 to 6 digits. If the PIN has not been set yet, the app says exactly that: "The PIN has not been set yet. Sign in with your login and password". Signing in with email and password always works and does not depend on anything.
The Owner's PIN and the staff PINs cannot be the same: the system checks this both ways and will not let the same code be issued twice.
What to Do If… #
…there is no crown on the staff sign-in screen? The device does not recognise you personally yet. Sign in to the dashboard on it once with your email and password — after that the crown appears and stays for years. It disappears if the browser data is cleared or the app is reinstalled; then simply sign in with your email and password again.
…there is no people icon on the Owner sign-in screen? This device is not linked to any point. Link it: dashboard → "Points" → the point's menu → "Link this device", or use the setup link or QR code. More details are in the article "How to Link a Device for Staff Sign-In".
…several people use the device and you do not want it to remember you? On the Owner sign-in screen, the "PIN" tab, there is a "Not you?" link — it makes the device forget your account, and the crown disappears from the staff sign-in.
…the PIN does not work? After several wrong attempts PIN sign-in is blocked for a while — wait a few minutes or sign in with your email and password, which lifts the restriction.
…the dashboard is light and the staff app is dark — is that a bug? No. The Owner's dashboard is light by default and the staff app is dark, and their themes are independent even on the same device. Both have a theme switch.
…will switching reset the device's link to the point? No. The Owner sign-in and the staff sign-in do not interfere with each other: the point stays linked and the staff member keeps signing in with their PIN.
